General Responsibilities:

The Senior Manager, People and Culture is an experienced human resources generalist who will support the entire company by playing a key role in building and managing right-sized but effective human resource functions, as well as Tourmaline’s corporate culture initiatives. This individual will lead certain day-to-day operational aspects of recruiting, benefits administration, compensation, onboarding, and training. They will also lead employee satisfaction feedback collection, as well as implement and maintain company culture initiatives to maintain and enhance the employee experience. 

Responsibilities:

  • Support company recruiting activities:
    • Work with Tourmaline hiring managers to develop and maintain hiring plans and to develop job descriptions
    • Participate in employee recruiting process (i.e., manage job postings and applications, phone screens / interviews, management of recruiter relationships and logistics, develop and issue prospective employee offers, maintain relevant documentation).
    • Lead onboarding and offboarding activities for employees.
    • Maintain and update hiring plans for reporting to PCC team, leadership and the board.
  • Support human resources strategic, administrative and operational activities.
    • Work with the Director, PCC and others across the organization to implement Tourmaline’s human resources strategy, organization, programs and resources in line with company needs and growth.
    • Provide operational support related to Tourmaline’s professional employment organization (PEO) (e.g., manage employee HR data, make payroll updates, perform year end administrative activities) and support evaluation and potential transition to HRIS platform.
    • Provide operational support to Tourmaline sponsored benefit plans (e.g., insurance, 401k).
    • Develop and administer employee training on HR matters, as needed.
    • Suggest appropriate innovative measures for enhancing existing HR processes and systems.
    • Address employee HR questions and issues with sensitivity and confidentiality.
  • Support company-wide initiatives and company culture:
    • Work with IT on development and maintenance of company intranet pages.
    • Support implementation of corporate culture and employee experience initiatives in collaboration with management team.
    • Support further incorporation of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in collaboration with management team.
    • Lead dissemination and results compilation of periodic employee surveys and support associated action plans.

Education and Licensure:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • SHRM or other HR certification is a plus.

Experience and Attributes:

  • 5+ years of pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry experience, with at least 2 years of people and culture leadership
  • Knowledgeable of organizational culture development and strategies
  • Demonstrated success in recruitment strategy and operations
  • Experience independently leading company culture and diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives
  • Experience with conversion from PEO model to in-house HR support preferred
  • Ability to collaborate and lead cross functionally and to develop strong relationships with partners both internally and externally
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to lead and influence at all levels of the organization
  • Highly organized, good problem-solving skills, detail-oriented
  • Ability to manage staff concerns and mitigate risk
  • High level of integrity, ethics, and discretion
  • Periodic travel to Tourmaline offices in New York and physical attendance at other project and team meetings will be required

Base Salary Range:

$140,000 – $167,000 based on candidate professional experience level.
